Health Benefits - Improved Indoor Air Quality
In today’s trying times, indoor air quality is more critical than ever. We spend lots of our time indoors and that is more true than ever today. Here in Texas where the Air Conditioner is called upon year-round, it is critical that your HVAC system(s) are maintained for optimal performance. A lot of people service and maintain the outside and inside cooling and heating units but what about the area in between. What about the air ducts?
The air ducts deliver the cold air and heat to the supply registers throughout the home. Most people regularly change their air filters, which is a great practice but;
- what about household dust particles that make it through the air filters?
- What about allergens that are more and more prevalent?
- What about the debris that has accumulated in the ductwork from the original construction? Once debris gets past the air filter, it will lay in the air duct runs and accumulate over time as well as create early HVAC system complications.
- What about any mold spores that may have formed a leak or too much humidity inside the home?
All of these things that can linger in the ductwork and every time the HVAC systems are operating, the air duct lines now act as carriers distributing all of these allergens and contaminants throughout the house severely hampering your indoor air quality. Think of the peace of mind you will have to know that you are taking all necessary precautions to make sure you are distributing the cleanest air you can throughout your home. Having your air duct system cleaned is critical to maintaining healthy indoor air quality.
Air Duct Cleaning Sevice & Process
When you have made the decision to move forward, we will coordinate a time that makes sense for you. Many clients have their ducts cleaned at the same time we are there to clean the dryer vent. By doing this, you can kill two birds with one stone and be eligible for a multi-service discount. The process can take up to 4 hours depending on; the number of HVAC systems you have, the number of stories of your home, the number of bedrooms, the length of air duct runs, as well as any unexpected issues we could encounter. Our system is designed to simultaneously brush loose any and all debris while simultaneously vacuuming it to maximize point of contact cleaning and minimize dust particles. Some but not all of the items that are cleaned are; pollen spores, dust, mites, and other bacterial particles. We clean from the air registers point of supply all the way to the plenum of your inside unit. By doing this we touch every inch of duct line to give your air condition and heating systems a fresh start. On the day of cleaning, we recommend having air filter replacements ready to replace the existing ones.
There are varying degrees of air filters on the market. From very basic inexpensive filters to heavier duty filters. As a quick reference, we recommend looking at the MERV rating (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value), which can range from 1 to 16 with 16 being the heaviest duty ones. The higher the rating the more heavy-duty the pleating will be. Because of this, the filter will collect many more particles and contaminants. This is a good thing, but remember that this can cause airflow restrictions so you need to select the one that makes the most sense for your indoor air needs.
Air Duct cleaning doesn’t take the place of maintaining your HVAC systems, they go hand in hand and we are happy to recommend some providers. Having your HVAC system maintained will help to remove debris from your AC coils, outside unit, and inside unit that can put any contaminants in the line. When we are done, we also offer a disinfectant service. When we are done, you won’t even know we were there. We clean up after ourselves and don’t leave until you have inspected all areas to make sure it is to your satisfaction.
Efficiency & Monetary Benefits
In addition to the obvious health benefits and peace of mind it creates, there are HVAC system efficiency benefits and the accompanying monetary benefits. Having your air duct system cleaned regularly keeps clean air flowing at the rate it is supposed to. This means your cooling system is working at its’ optimal rate which in theory means the system runs less and will last longer and save you on ac repair and replacement costs. Additionally, since your system is functioning the way it’s supposed to, the AC and Heat settings will achieve and hold their temperature settings more efficiently. Experience cleaner air and lower bills at the same time.
Clean air ducts equal better indoor air. Even more important than all of the other benefits is that you are controlling the air you and your family breathe in. We’ve all been in those homes where the AC is cranking and it is cooling, but you can smell the moisture in the air as well as just get that “not clean” smell. What your smelling are things that in the air duct lines including potential mold growth or mold spores that are being pumped into your air. There are no guarantees, but filtering cleaner air throughout your home certainly is beneficial to people with known health problems as well as the overall environment you are creating for everyone.
